Welcome to the Catholic Justice and Peace Commission-Ruaraka Deanery

Catholic Justice and Peace Commission (CJPC) was formed in 1988 as the executive arm of the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops(KCCB) on matters of peace and justice. The CJPC works to fulfil one of KCCB objectives, that is,to promote justice and challenge oppressive structures in society. CJPC’s broad aim is to sensitise individuals, communities, and the whole nation on justice ,peace issues and their respective roles and duties in addressing peace development, human advancement and human rights.

In Ruaraka Deanery, CJPC has undergone tremendous growth over the years. CJPC is valued as a ministry in the catholic church that is mandated with the responsibility of ensuring people live in a just and peaceful society. In our deanery, CJPC has representation in all the 11 parishes within the deanery. We have also adopted the structure of at least 2 members per Small Christian Community or ecclesial group and this has significantly helped the group to have strong representation at the grass-root level. CJPC enjoys total support from the Deanery Pastoral Council as well as the PPC leaders from all parishes in the deanery and this has led to its rapid growth witnessed so far.

In order to achieve its objectives, the Catholic Justice and Peace Commission in Ruaraka Deanery has a number of programs which our membership participates. This include:

LENTEN CAMPAIGN 2020

Lent is a time of reflection and prayer. It is a 40-day journey where we travel with Christ to Jerusalem to be with him in his suffering and death. It is a time when we reflect on how our sins have contributed to the introduction of disorder in the world. It is a blessed time because God gives us another occasion to repent and make up for our sinfulness in fasting, prayer, abstinence and charity. (Matthew 6:1-6.16-18). The Annual Lenten Campaigns’ broad objective is to sensitize Christians on issues that affect society and how they relate to the social teachings of the church. The Catholic Justice and Peace Commission is charged with the development of the Lenten campaign.

Peace Building and Conflict Resolution.

In order to empower society, we organize training in entrepreneurship for members of the society especially the youth so as to boost their economic self-reliance hence, peaceful co-existence. CJPC is also involved in identifying the cause of the conflict, conflict management, and resolution. CJPC organizes various workshops to train participants on the avoidance of conflict and crime while promoting justice and peaceful coexistence.
